Top tips for awards delivery | Leadership Skills Foundation

Three top tips for awards centres

As part of signing up to deliver one of our awards programmes, the Leadership Skills Foundation will provide you with all the support and training needed to get up and running.

But there’s no substitute for hearing from other centres who deliver the same awards to offer guidance. Based on feedback received from centres throughout the academic year, here’s some top tips for successful delivery with the award being delivered in brackets.

What top tips would you share with other centres delivering Leadership Skills Foundation awards?

Plan the session each week with the team to suit the needs of the group. Keep it interactive, fun and not all classroom based. Offer 1 to 1 support for those who need it with the booklet. Let the learners know in advance who will be delivering their sessions and when, so that they can plan and prepare themselves. Let the less confident members team up with either a staff member or a more confident learner. (I Can Lead)

The more practical delivery, the better. Use the worksheets to reinforce the practical learning. (I Can Lead)

Allow time for the pupils to fill in their journals. Talk to Class Teachers to see if homework time could be used for this. Keep finding leadership opportunities for the pupils to be involved with to keep their motivation high and so they get to practise what they have learnt, regularly and in a safe environment. (PlayMaker)

Use all resources provided as they are well planned and structured. Make sure to complete the play maker journal alongside sessions, and allow children time to go away and reflect on their journey. (PlayMaker)

Using the Go Lead award as an intro before conducting Level 1 or 2 qualifications. Good for a taster sessions. (Go Lead)

Find opportunities for the pupils to lead younger pupils and their peers so they can see the difference in how age affects their leadership choices. (Young Leader)

In summary, our three top tips for delivery of our awards programmes:

  1. Make use of the resources provided
  2. Make your course as practical and interactive as possible
  3. Give learners the opportunity to practice their skills and lead younger children.
