Who is this for: all centres, but specifically those that deliver the Level 2 Qualification in Assisting Lowland Expedition Leadership
Following the annual review of the impact of our qualifications, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw the Level 2 Qualification in Assisting Lowland Expedition Leadership (603/1129/0).
The centres that have delivered this over the years have done a fantastic job in creating a learning environment where learners can develop the skills required to be an assistant lowland expedition leader.
However, the number of centres offering this qualification has fallen drastically over the last five years making it more challenging to offer a cost-effective and valid offer in the future.
Please be reassured that the qualification certificate still remains valid for learners that have completed or that will complete the course. This is true even after the qualification is withdrawn.
Important dates for centres:
Last course start date: 1 March 2026*
Last certification date: 31 May 2028
*Centres are given eight weeks from the course start date to register learners against that course. So, refer to your course start date for working out the eight-week period, but if the course start date was 1 March 2026, the last date for registrations on that course would be 31 May 2026.
Next steps for centres with current courses:
Centres that are partway through the delivery of a course must continue with the delivery, ensuring that learners are given access to the assessment they are still required to complete.
A member of the Quality Assurance team will complete your quality assurance review once you have completed the course and have claimed certificates.
Replacement qualification for centres wanting to deliver in the future:
There is no direct alternative offered but there is the potential to offer of Level 2 Qualification in Leadership Skills or the Level 3 Qualification in Leading a Project for Positive Change as part of the Leadership Skills Programme. This is a qualification that focusses on the development and application of essential leadership skills, so it does not directly replace the imparting of lowland expedition knowledge. If centres deliver their own lowland expedition module of learning, this could be delivered alongside the delivery of the Leadership Skills Foundation qualification.
